Description
If you love blue flowers, ‘Blue Satin’ is the best, strongest growing, blue flowering variety of Rose of Sharon we’ve grown in our gardens here in north-central Georgia. It is much better than most other blue flowering varieties. Large, stunning, true-blue flowers are produced in abundance during the heat of summer, when we need soothing colors in the garden. The hummingbirds and butterflies will thank you for planting Blue Satin!
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 8 to 10 feet tall with a spread to about 6 feet, Blue Satin Rose of Sharon is ideal for use as a large shrub or small tree. We think Rose of Sharon are most useful in the landscape as a focal point specimen. That said, they are also nice grouped or used as attractive, colorful hedges in landscape borders. Remove lower branches from your Rose of Sharon and you have a stunning small tree that fits perfectly in smaller garden spaces, home foundation plantings, around patios and other outdoor living spaces, or just about anywhere in the sunny landscape.
Spacing:Â Â 4′ for solid hedge; 8′ for space between plants
Growing Preferences
Rose of Sharon are easy to grow and maintain in most any average, moist but well-drained soil and plenty of sunshine. Some shade will be tolerated but flowering won’t be as heavy and plants may be leggier and tend to flop. Maintenance is minimal requiring little or no pruning and plants are quite drought tolerant when established.Â

The Blue Satin is not as blue as the picture, but is quite lovely. Wondering if fertilizer or ph needs adjusting to be more blue? I will investigate, but satisfied with appearance. It arrived in excellent condition with buds on the plant which did not fall off during planting and opened nicely… very impressive.—————————————————-We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come! Thanks for the great review! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG
It arrived in great shape. Been in the ground about 3 weeks, they’re doing great. Can’t wait to see the blue flowers come out.—————————————————–Thanks so much for your review. Let us know if there’s ever anything we can help you with. 🙂 – Beth | WBG
The two plants I ordered arrived quickly and well-packaged. They are only bare right now, but come springtime, I’m hoping they will leaf out well and that the summer flowers are as vivid as shown online.————————————————–We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy them for years to come! The Hibiscus I purchased from Wilson Bros. was well branched, fairly well-rooted, and obviously vibrantly alive and ready to grow this spring. It was well secured in its shipping box, arrived quickly – less than two weeks from date of order, and was priced fairly for its variety, size, root growth, durable packaging, and shipping.
I’ve ordered trees and shrubs from Wilson Bros before, and they haven’t failed to impress me yet. I’ll look to them in the future for the varieties of plants I can’t seem to find locally.—————————————-We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come! Plants waere in great condition when they arrived at my location, planted the three trees and they are growing great little miracle gro once a week, having a problem with ants.—————————————————We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy them for years to come! Thanks for the kind words and great review! Try some Acephate or Neem for the ants, if they are in the ground use Acephate, if they are on the plants use Neem.:) Beth Steele | WBG
This plant looked rough when it arrived, but I planted right away and kept it watered. Now its blooming and growing and makes me so happy, everyday when I look out my windows and see the beautiful blooms! Well worth it and I may buy another :)———————————————-Sorry it looked rough on arrival, but so glad its doing well now. We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come! I bought this and have had it in the ground just a couple of months. I waited to review to see if the colors were right. They were and its already loaded with blooms. I can honestly say that everything I have bought from Wilson Bros have been quality plants which is not true with other companies I have tried on the net. If I can’t find a plant here in my city, I always come here.———————————————Thanks for the photo! 🙂 We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come!
