Description
A first-class super-tough but pretty flowering shrub for adding long-lasting color to dry situations, the Gold Star Shrubby Cinquefoil withstands drought, poor soils and frigid temperatures down to -50F. Prized for its long bloom season, from late spring or early summer well into fall abundant, brilliant golden-yellow flowers appear against a dense mound of attractive, dainty, green leaves. An extremely cheerful and undemanding native plant, Gold Star is excellent for use in difficult spots where nothing else can survive. Wonderful for mixed borders and rock gardens. Virtually pest and disease free and deer turn their nose up to it, we hear this is one of the most heat tolerant of the species.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 24 to 36 inches tall and equally as wide, the Gold Star Shrubby Cinquefoil is ideal for use as an accent in smaller garden spaces or grouped in landscape, flowering shrub and perennial borders. A fine addition to rock gardens, yellow theme gardens, cottage gardens, butterfly gardens and the Xeriscape (low water needs).
Suggested Spacing:Â 24 to 30 inches apart for groupings; 48 inches apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences
Shrubby Cinquefoil is very easy to grow in most any average, moist but well-drained soil in full shade to part shade. Soil must be well-drained. Amend heavy clay or other compact soils to ensure good drainage. It is very drought tolerant when established. Pest and disease free and deer tolerant. Plants can be trimmed lightly after flowering and any old stems can be removed to encourage new growth.
