Leptinella gruveri, commonly known as miniature brass buttons or mini fairy fern, is a versatile, dense, matt-forming, shade-loving perennial that stands up well to foot traffic, which makes it ideal for use as a groundcover, edging, underplanting for shrubs and trees, as a lawn substitute, as a soil cover in container gardens, or to fill the gaps between stepping stones and pavers. Its attractive, tiny, fern-like muted green foliage grows to an inch in height and a foot wide. Small, round, yellow-green flowers appear in late spring to early summer. It thrives in a moist but well-draining soil and part to full shade.

Forming a dense carpet to about an inch tall and foot wide, Miniature Brass Buttons is ideal for use as a groundcover or underplanting around shrubs, small trees and perennial plants in shade gardens, landscape borders and home foundation plantings.
