Description
An easy-to-grow and beautiful native flowering perennial plant, the Summer Sun False Sunflower lights up the garden with a profusion of bright golden-yellow semi-double daisies from early or mid summer through early to mid fall. The strong stems make the flowers great for cutting and use in floral arrangements. The butterflies and beneficial pollinators love them while songbirds enjoy the seeds. One that will grow almost anywhere in the country (USDA Zones 3a-9b), Summer Sun has high heat tolerance so is a great Heliopsis selection for the South and will also handle -40F winter low temperatures. At 3 feet tall and nearly as wide, this one is a great choice for a grouping at the middle or back of the perennial border or as an accent in smaller garden spaces and containers.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 3 feet tall and almost as wide, the Summer Sun Great False Sunflower is ideal for use as an accent in small garden spaces or containers or in groupings or as a background plant in perennial and wildflower or native plant borders. A fine addition to perennial gardens, butterfly and beneficial pollinator gardens, meadow gardens, native gardens, wildflower gardens and yellow theme gardens.
Suggested Spacing:Â 24 inches apart for mass plantings; 42 inches apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences
Summer Sun Great False Sunflower is very easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained soil of average to low fertility and full sun to part shade. We suggest at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day for best flowering and overall performance. High drought tolerance when established and will grow in poor soils. Maintenance is minimal. Prune annually in spring just after new growth begins to emerge. At this time cut the plant back to just above the new growth.
